Infographics in Education

Below is an example of a learning outcome that reflects thinking about representing a topic through multiple disciplines. Specifically, this is an infographic that was created by me during my Master's coursework.  The idea behind this infographic was to present a variety of ways to approach the similarities and differences of the Abrahamic religions.  The choice of showing these different religions ties back to the history class I teach in Taiwan, and as we explore the development of religions students have many questions.

The connection between this poster and the future of what education should look like, is that this is the type of assignment that asks students to pull from a variety of skills and disciplines.  Students that can explore topics from a variety of academic angles can then begin to see not only the connections across these divisions, but these very connections will help students to start asking questions that might lead to further inquiry or exploration.  For example, after creating this type of infographic a student might begin to wonder about the reasoning behind the age demographic disparity amongst the different religions, or they might wonder why, if Judaism is the backbone of the three religions, then why does it feature the fewest number of followers?  These questions then might lead to students identifying key social problems worth further analysis.
